Mrs. Irene L. Guest, Daughter Of Hornitos Settlers, Dies In SF

The Rosary will be recited in the Crew & English Chapel in San Francisco at 8:30 p.m. tomorrow for Mrs. Irene L. Guest, 79, a former Merced resident and a native of Hornitos, Mariposa County, whose forbears settled there more than a century ago.

Mrs. Guest died Saturday in a hospital in San Francisco, her home city for the past 18 years. Her funeral will be held at 9 a.m. in the Holy Cross Church in San Francisco. Burial will be in the Evergreen Mausoleum in Merced.

Mrs. Guest was born Aug. 10, 1886, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Samuel Lord, who also were born in Mariposa County.

She was the widow of John W. Guest Jr., who in 1937 built as his own investment and enterprise Motel Merced. After his death in 1942 she moved to San Mateo, and from there to San Francisco.

Surviving are a son, Lawrence Guest of San Francsico; three grandchildren, Margo and Barbara Guest of San Francisco and Larry A. Guest, a Latin instructor at San Joaquin Memorial High School in Fresno; a great grandson; and a sister, Mrs. J. C. Drake of Fresno.
