Both parents were killed by Indians. Polly Moore was kidnapped to Ohio, traded to Shawnee, and sold to a Detroit fur trader, until barterred for release in 1789, after three years captivity. Her brother James Moore, Jr., also a captive for five years, wrote the historical account: "Captives of Abb's Valley".

I did a search, and it looks as if the book mentioned on this page was not written by Polly's brother but by her son. "The Captives of Abb's Valley: the Massacre & Captivity of Settlers in Virginia by Indians, 1786" was written by James Moore Brown and published in 1854.
