John C Turnley had marked off two acres of ground on the Mill Place twelve hundred yards back, or south, from the river for a burying ground. It was the top crest or level of a heavily wooded ridge lying right along the east side of the main road leading to and from the mills. The grave of little four-year-old Mirando Elmira Turnley was the first to be made in that then lonely place. (by Bettye Hull)
