Cornelius Asbury Johsnon, son of the late Coleman and Polly Mills Johnson, was born at Faubush, Kentucky, February 13, 1880 and died June 1, at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Thursa Roberts, having attained the age of 82 years, 3 months and 18 days. He had made his home with Mrs. Roberts at Norfleet for the past fifteen years. He had been ill since January 13 of this yera.

He was united in marriage to Dora A. Brown in May 1903. She preceded him in death February 13, 1938. Twelve children blessed this union: Elbert T. and Jessie of Atlanta, Georgia; Mrs. Ella May Fox, Mrs. Bonnie Cundiff and Warren all of Nancy; Mrs. Lillie Fay Burgin and Mrs. Jewell Ham of Chattanooga, Tennessee; Mrs. Bannie Flynn and Wolford of Dayton, Ohio; Mrs. Thursa Roberts of Norfleet and Mrs. Helen Dudley of Sacramento, California. One son died in infancy. There are thirty-one grandchildren and twenty-eight great-grandchildren.

Several years ago he made a profession of his faith and was saved. He moved his membership to the Bethlehem Baptist Church after making his home with his daughter and continued his membership with that church until the time of his passing.

Other than his children he is survived by two sisters and three brothers: Mrs. Myrtle Vaughn of Farmer City, Illinois, Mrs. Arzona Vaughn of Somerset, Henry Johnson of Pleasant Hill, Robert and Tom Johnson of Nancy.

He was initiated into Sievers Lodge No. 491 of Free and Accepted Masons as an Entered Apprentice July 12, 1906. He was passed to the Degree of a Fellow Craft September 8, 1906 and raised to the sublime Degree of a Master Mason December 8, 1906.. At the time of his passing he held the distinction of being the oldest member of the Sievers Lodge.

He was a retired farmer.

Funeral services were held Sunday, June 3, at 2:30 p.m. at the White Oak Baptist Church with the Rev. Walter Jones and the Rev. Hugh Shelton officiating. Burial was in the White Oak Cemetery. Masonic rites were held at the graveside by the Sievers Lodge No. 491 F. & A.M.

Farris-Morris-Hislope Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
