Son of James McCuiston and Margaret Trindle of Westmoreland Co., PA. He joined his brother John in Scrubgrass Twp, Venango Co., PA about 1802. He served in the war of 1812. He moved to Butler Co., PA sometime after 1820.

Alexander first married Abbigail "Abbie" Crawford about 1802 in Venango Co., PA. She was born about 1785 in Westmoreland Co., PA and died in 1809 in Irwin Township, Venango Co., PA. They had a daughter they named Martha M. McQuiston in 1805 and another daughter Margaret who was born in 1808. Abbie died a year later in 1809.

He then married IsaBella "Ibbie" Sloan in 1812. She was born on 11 Feb. 1785 and died on 21 Nov 1861 in Butler Co., PA They had 10 children they named: Clark, IsaBella, July Ann, Eleanor, Amy, Isabella, Alexander, Margaret, Jane Elizabeth and Clarinda.

He is buried in the Concord Presbyterian Churchyard, West Sunbury, Butler Co., PA with his second wife IsaBella in the older part of this cemetery.
