James Elmer Brooks was born January 16, 1901, at Corbin, Kentucky, the son of Henry and Amanda (Parks) Brooks. He married Bertha Lollar, June 3, 1921, at Bentonville, Arkansas. Mr. Brooks had been a mechanic in Caldwell for many years.

At the time of his death he was survived by his wife, Bertha of Caldwell: a son James C. Brooks of Caldwell: two daughters, Leota McDowell of Boise and Loretta Naylor of Caldwell: three sisters, Bertha Kinsey of Caldwell, Nellie Horn and Dorotha Lloyd both of Boise: two brothers, Ira Brooks of Bentonville, Arkansas, and L.W. Brooks of Caldwell: nine grandchildren: and 15 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Ruby Mathews of Boise, and a brother, Homer, of Caldwell.
