Funeral services for Barbara Chandler, 66, a longtime resident of Portales, will be at 2:00 P.M., Saturday, February 13, 2010, at the Southside Church of Christ with Marlin Poynor officiating. Burial will follow in the Portales Cemetery with Cody Pinkert, Travis Rogers, Garrett Scisson, Ray Chandler, Jay Robinson, Mike Nuckols and Gary Nuckols serving as pallbearers.
Barbara Dean Chandler was born February 2, 1944, in Portales to the home of Beaulah and Emil W. Johnson and died February 10, 2010, in Lubbock, TX. Mrs. Chandler was married to Jerry Chandler on August 11, 1960, in Portales. In 1961, she and her husband moved to Belen. Barbara attended beauty school in Albuquerque, and then worked in a beauty shop in Belen. In 1971, she and her family moved back to Portales. She worked at Billie's Beauty Salon until 1980, when she quit working to stay home and take care of her newly born grandson. Barbara was a member of the Southside Church of Christ. She enjoyed various activities, including quilting, reading, watching movies, cooking, and doing craft projects. However, her favorite activity was spending time with her grandchildren and later her great-grandchildren.
She is survived by her three daughters and sons-in-law, Tina (Mark) Pinkert of Albuquerque, Tonjua (Mark) Scisson of Sudan, TX, and Tammie (Randy) Rogers of Tuttle, OK; six grandchildren, Cody Pinkert, Jenea Grimes, Garrett and Shayla Scisson and Lacey and Travis Rogers; three great-grandchildren, Ekzavier, A. J. and Jerry Pinkert; a brother, Curtis Johnson of Albuquerque, and two sisters, Joan Nuckols of Portales and Juanice Robinson of Lovington, NM.
Mrs. Chandler was preceded in death by her parents, and by her husband, Jerry Chandler who died December 20, 1995.
