PER researcher G. Brewer--The Benjamin Brewer family moved to Kentucky in early 1800s, then pushed on (minus at least two daughters who married in Kentucky), to Washington County, Indiana.

Some notes on the three Brewer sons William, Sammy and Peter state they died of the "cold plague" in 1813. Unmarked graves supposedly at the now defunct Brewer Block House Cemetery, Salem, Indiana.

STEVENS HISTORY OF WASHINGTON COUNTY, INDIANA (1916) Benjamin Brewer settled in Washington County, Indiana, probably as early as 1809-1810. He built a fort on the hill (page 608). When Salem was laid out, the only spot under civilization was about 3 acres north of Market Street and west of Posey where he had a cabin/fort which stood in what is now Walnut Street.

Benjamin Brewer was born on 24 April 1755.
He married Catherine Gerthraut Mellinger, daughter of John Mellinger, at Fayette Co., Pennsylvania, on 18 May 1781.
Also known as Benjamin Brauer.
Benjamin Brewer was a Revolutionary War soldier. He filed a declaration for a pension on 7 June 1832, in Indiana. On 6 April 1833, Benjamin was living in Washington Co., Indiana, age 78. He states that he was drafted into the militia at Fayette Co., Pennsylvania in 1776, served for one month in the Company of Capt. Huston, marched to Pittsburgh and did garrison duty for one month and was discharged. He was drafted again later in the year and served under Capt. Huston, guarding a magazine of ammunition about forty miles from Pittsburgh, again serving for one month. Later in 1776 or 1777 he was drafted again at the same place for one month, served under Capt. Huston guarding positions on the Allegany about thirty miles above Pittsburgh. Capt. Huston died on the return march during this service. Benjamin served on two more occasions in 1777, serving as a private in the militia in the 8th and 9th Regt. His date of birth in the application for a pension is given as 24 April 1755.
He was found on the tax list at Tyrone Twp., (then Westmoreland Co.), Pennsylvania, in 1783 as Benjamin Brewer, with 150 acres, 1 horse, 2 cattle, and 6 white inhabitants.
On 20 Feb 1783, Samuel Brewer of Tyrone Twp., Westmoreland County sold to Benjamin Brewer of Huntington Twp., Westmoreland County, improvement on waters of Yough River between said river and Jacobs Creek, sw of lands of Samuel Whitsett, and se of lands of Moses Smith, n. of spring claimed by John Haselton. Witnessed by David Perry and Peter Bruin.
He was found on the tax list at Tyrone Twp., Fayette Co., Pennsylvania, in 1785 taxed at 5.
Benjamin is the only Brewer taxed in Tyrone in 1785.
On 30 Sep 1788, John Stewart had surveyed 200 acres located on the east side of the Youghiogeni river in Tyrone Twp., Fayette County, adjoining the lands of William Epsy, Benjamin Brewer, and John Lee, pursuant to a warrant dated 17 Dec 1787.
He appeared on the census in 1790 at Tyrone, Fayette Co., Pennsylvania, as Benjamin Brewer, with a family of 1 male over 16, 3 males under 16, and 5 females.
John Brewer, Benjamin Brewer, Elias Brewer, and David Brewer are all found in Fayette Co., Penn. in 1790.
He appeared on the census in 1820 at Washington Co., Indiana, as Benjamin Brewer, with 1 male under 10, 1 male over 45, 2 females over 45, 3 persons engaged in agriculture.
He appeared on the census in 1830 at Washington Co., Indiana, as Benjamin Brewer, with 1 male age 70-80, 1 female 20-30, 1 female 70-80, 1 female 80-90. Amos Brewer, John Brewer, John G. Brewer, John H. Brewer, and Richard Brewer are all found in Washington County in 1830.
