Mrs. Shifflett was born September 19, 1940 in Linville and was the daughter of the late Basil and Leona Moubray Brown.
Myrtle attended Mercy Seat Church prior to her disability, and had previously worked at R.M.H. in housekeeping for ten years, Sleepwear Inc. as a seamstress, Elkton Manor and Journey's Crossing in housekeeping. She enjoyed church, family, friends and bluegrass music.
On January 14, 1956 she married William Harold Shifflett, who survives. Also surviving are two sons, "Ricky" Richard A. Shifflett of Elkton and William H. Shifflett, Jr. of Broadway; one grandson, Greg Shifflett; and three great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Betty Shifflett, Beatrice Williams and husband, Forrest and Frances Moubray and husband, Kenneth; brothers-in-law, Perry, Wilford, Charlie, Joe and David Shifflett. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Larry Wayne Shifflett, and a grandson, Alan Shifflett; a brother, Harold Brown; and two sisters, Marie Brown and Salavda Brown.
A funeral service will be held 11:00 Friday morning, February 10, 2012 at the Kyger Funeral Home Chapel in Elkton, with Pastor Wayne Taylor and Rev. Jimmy Kite officiating. Burial will follow at Eastlawn Memorial Gardens near Harrisonburg.
The family will receive friends Thursday evening from 6~8 at the funeral home in Elkton. Friends may also call at the Shifflett home at anytime.
