Auguste Komm, daughter of Wilhelm Komm and Wilhelmine ‘Minnie' Blaine, was born 31 Aug 1871 in Pommerania, West Prussia. She emigrated from Prussia to New York City and eventually to Presque Isle County, Michigan, about 1886 or 1887.

On 29 Sep 1895 she was united in marriage with Rudolph Albert Peetz, son of Wilhelm Heinrich and Emilie (Lenz) Peetz, at St James Lutheran Church, Moltke Township. Witnesses at Rudolph and Augusta's marriage were August Grossmann and Bertha Peetz; Friedrich Algenstädt and Hulde Pommerenke, all of Moltke

They made their home on the Peetz homestead in Bismarck Township where they farmed and raised a family of five children.

1900 US Federal Census for Bismarck, Presque Isle, Michigan, enumerated 02 Jun 1900. Rudolph and Auguste have been married four years. They have two children, both living. They have their own farm, homesteaded by Rudolph's father William and mother Emilie. Rudolph's widowed mother lives with them. The census also states that both Rudolph and Auguste were born in Germany; Rudolph immigrated in 1872 and is a naturalized citizen; Auguste immigrated with her family in 1886 but she apparently has not taken US citizenship as yet. In addition to the family, Rudolph and Auguste have taken in as "ward" a Charles Boddey. He only appears as a household member in this 1900 census data.* (See note below). Household members:
Name Age
Rudolph Peetz 31 (Head, b. 06/1868, Germany, immigrated 1872, naturalized citizen, occupation: farming)
Auguste Peetz 28 (Spouse, b. 08/1871, Germany, immigrated 1886, married 4 years, mother of 2, occupation: keeping house)
Anna Peetz 3 (Daughter, b. 07/1896, Michigan)
Frank Peetz 1 (Son, b. 11/1898, Michigan)
Emilie Peetz 65 (Mother, b. 05/1835, Germany, immigrated 1872, widow, occupation: keeping house)
Charles Boddey 8 (Ward, b. 07/1891, Michigan, parents' birthplace unknown)

*Note: Donald Knopf in his "Peetz & Schlieben Families - Belknap Township" list Charles as a member and foster-son of the Rudolph and Auguste Peetz family. "Charles Alexander Bady Peetz, born July 24, 1891 in Coldwater [Branch County], Michigan; died April 02, 1986 in Rogers City [Presque Isle County], Michigan."

1910 US Federal Census for Bismarck, Presque Isle, Michigan, enumerated 26 Apr 1910. Rudolph and Auguste have been married fourteen years. They have four children, all living. Mother Emilie has been received into heaven and Charles is no longer listed with the family household. English can be spoken by parents and two older children; however, German is still the language at home and with family and church. Otto, apparently, is not yet familiar with the English. Household members:
Name Age
Rudolph Peetz 41 (Head, Occupation: Farming)
Gustie Peetz 38 (Spouse, mother of four, keeping house)
Anna Peetz 13 (Daughter, in school and helping with household and family chores)
Frank Peetz 11 (Son, in school and helping with household and family chores)
Otto Peetz 7 (Son, in school and helping with household and family chores)
Alice Peetz 0 yrs 11 months (Daughter)

1920 US Federal Census for Bismarck, Presque Isle, Michigan, enumerated 11 Feb 1920. This census was more precise in "birth origin": Rudolph from Pommern and Auguste from West Prussia. It also verifies that both became naturalized US citizens in 1897. Both Anna and Frank are no longer living at home. Anna had married William J Freel about 1915 and Frank had left home to make a life of his own. The last report I could find of Frank was in the 1920 census for Moltke Township. He is listed as a boarder in the Frank Decker and working on public road construction.

German is listed as the main language spoken at home, but both Otto and Alice have become quite fluent in English. It should be noted that the family was difficult to find in the 1920 census as, due to poor penmanship, "Peetz" appears as "Pertz" and "Rudolph" and "Randolph". The names as listed below are as they appeared in the transcribed 1920 US census records. Household members:
Name Age
Randolph Pertz 51 (Head, b. Pomerania, naturalized citizen 1897, farming)
Augusta Pertz 48 (Spouse, b. West Prussia, naturalized citizen 1897, keeping house)
Otto Pertz 16 (Son, b. Michigan, no longer in school, working out but helping with farm chores)
Alice Pertz 10 (Daughter, b. Michigan, in school, helping with household chores.)

1930 US Federal Census for Bismarck, Presque Isle, Michigan, enumerated 02 Apr 1930. The family homestead has been passed on to Otto who is now listed as "head of the family". Alice is now living with and helping her sister Anna with her gowning family in Millersburg. German is the main language at home, church, and among family and friends. Household members:
Name Age
Otto Peetz 27 (Head, single, occupation: general farming)
Rudolph Peetz 61 (Father, 27 when first married, farming)
Auguste Peetz 58 (Mother, 24 when first married, keeping house)

This is the last census entry for Rudolph and Auguste. The following year Otto would marry Edith Horn and Rudolph and Auguste would be able to enjoy the birth and early years of two grandchildren, Marie and Bill (Bud).

Rudolph would be called home to heaven in 1942 when Marie was 10 and Bud was eight and grandmother Auguste would be called home to heaven in 1946 when Marie was fourteen and Bud was 12.

Auguste (Komm) Peetz passed away at her home in Bismarck Township on 16 Nov 1946 at the age of 75 Years, 2 Months, 16 Days. Following her funeral service conducted at St James Lutheran Church, her mortal remains were laid to rest next to those of her husband in the church cemetery.
