GORMAN, Feb. 13__Mr. and Mrs. Clay Short of route 1, have received word their son Sgt. Curtis Short was killed in action in Belgium Jan. 17. He was wounded in battle in December for which he received the Purple Heart, but had gone back to the front Jan. 6th.
News was received a few days before his death of the story of his brother, Sgt. Clennon Short, in the European theater of operations three years before Curtis arrived, hearing of his brother being there, had literally fought his way up to the front line to visit him. As Clennan neared the front line he saw the assault was in full swing, and added his own fire power to that of his brother's company. Following capture of the objective he found Curtis, and there, amid the momentary confusion that follows such assaults, they staged a reunion.
Sergeant Curtis's wife, Mrs. Dola Bell Short, is a nurse in a Stephenville hospital.
