John E. Laman, MD, of North Little Rock, died May 12, 2004. Dr. Laman was born April 4, 1911 in North Little Rock, Arkansas to James Newton Laman and Anna Fewell. He graduated North Little Rock High School in 1930. He joined the U. S. Navy where he served from 1930-34. He graduated Little Rock Junior College in 1936 with an associate degree and completed his BS in Business from the UA Fayetteville in 1938. He graduated the University of Arkansas Medical School in 1945. He then served in the U. S. Army Medical Corp from 1945 to 1949 during General MacArthur's occupation of Japan. Dr. Laman started his medical practice in January of 1950 and retired in 1988. While maintaining his private practice he also served as the North Little Rock City Health Officer for over 50 years. It is estimated that he delivered over 2,000 babies during his career.

His sister, Doris precedes him in death. He is survived by his loving and caring wife, Chris Laman of North Little Rock; son Robert Laman of Little Rock, son Edward Laman of Atlanta, Georgia; daughter Ceila Stone of Scott, AR, daughter Cynthia Trice of Alexandria, VA; four grandchildren, Brooke, Lyndsey, Justin and Stacy; one brother, William F. Laman; and his faithful and trusting Yorkie, Amber.

He will be cremated at his request. Interment will be private at Arkansas State Veteran's Cemetery in North Little Rock
