Deceased Name: Jeffrey Boland, Marine Corps NCO-instructor
Marine Corps Sgt. Jeffrey R. Boland, 26, of New London, Conn., and formerly of 89 Barbour St., died on Friday at the home of his mother after a long illness.
He was stationed at the Groton, Conn., Naval Submarine Base for three years as a weapons instructor.
Born in North Adams, he was a graduate of Drury High School in 1981. He enlisted in the Marine Corps, and received basic training at Parris Island, S.C. He trained as a weaponry instructor at Camp Pendleton, Calif., before being assigned to the Groton base.
While in North Adams, he was a communicant of Notre Dame Church.
He leaves his mother, Shirley A. (Reeves) Boland of North Adams; his father, James B. Boland of Adams; two brothers, James B. Jr. of Chicopee, and Timothy P. of Somersworth, N.H.; his twin sister, Lisa Waltermire of Pittsfield, and his grandmother, Viola Reeves of Adams.
The funeral will be on Monday morning at Flynn & Dagnoli-Montagna Home for Funerals and in the church, with burial in the Southview Cemetery. Calling hours will be Sunday afternoon and evening.
Memorial contributions may be made to any charity, in care of the funeral home.
