Southview Cemetery includes what was once known as The Phillips Cemetery, which is situated about a mile from the centre of the

city, and was a little tract of land on a farm which was owned by one Phillips. This little tract was set aside as a burial place was purchased in 1888 by the city for a cemetery. The old cemetery is situated in just about the center of the new cemetery, and some of the stones are broken and others are just ready to fall over but all are legible. The old Phillips Cemetery was surveyed by Mary F B Burbank in 1913.

In addition, over 160 burials were removed from Colegrove Cemetery to Southview Cemetery, and they have been recorded in this cemetery. Colegrove Cemetery is defunct.
