Kenneth William Thiel entered eternal life peacefully, yet unexpectedly, Sunday, February 7, 2010 in Reed City, Michigan. He was 84 years old.

Kenneth was born March 4, 1925 to Daniel A. and Jennie (Smits) Thiel in Hersey, Michigan. He was raised in Hersey and was a 1944 graduate of Hersey High School.

Kenneth maintained the family farm and drove a milk truck for Liberty Dairy until his enlistment in the United States Army in 1946. He worked several small jobs after his discharge until becoming employed with ANR Pipeline Co. in 1964, where he remained until his retirement in 1986.

On December 27, 1950, he was married to Carmen Jacqueline Sharkey at the Hersey Methodist Church, and she preceded him in death. He later was married to Helen Jamison, who also preceded him in death.

He was an avid outdoorsman who loved hunting and fishing.

He is survived by his loving family: daughters, Jackie (Jordan) Spedowski of Reed City and Julie Thiel of Mesa, Ariz.; son, Paul (Sarah) Thiel of Anchorage, Alaska; three stepchildren, Karen (Steve) Akom of Tustin, Luann (Mark) Perkins of Holland and Renee (Doug) Meyers of Cedar Springs; eight grandchildren, Kenneth, Matthew and Sarah Spedowski, Jorryn, William, Carmen and Susan Thiel and Danielle French; one great-grandchild, Nathaniel Spedowski; five stepgrandchildren; three stepgreat-grandchildren; sisters, Wilma Eerdmans and Ruth (Harry) Bolthouse, both of Grand Rapids; brother-in-law, Norvel Sharkey of Reed City; special friend, Eleanor Eichenberg of Reed City; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wives, Carmen and Helen, and his brother, Arthur.

Visitation: Thursday February 11, 2010 from 3 to 9 p.m. at the Pruitt-Livingston Funeral Home in Reed City.

Funeral services: Friday, February 12, 2010 at 11 a.m. at the Trinity Lutheran Church, Reed City, with Pastor Richard Collin officiating.

Burial will follow at Hersey Village Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made in his name to the Trinity Lutheran Church or to the American Cancer Society.
