John Alexander married Martha Estelle Brown on May 16, 1892 in Jones County Mississippi. Martha was born on April 28, 1892 in Jones County, Mississippi to Millard Watkins and Mary Catherine Easterling Brown. John was raised in Wayne County. During the depression he took his family to the Delta region of Mississippi but they did not like it and returned to Southeast Mississippi. They lived in Jones and Wayne Counties before finally settling in Perry County on the old Samuel Easterling place. It is said that the original room of this house is more than 100 years old as of this writing (1981). He earned his living by farming and he and Martha raised a family of nine children. He and Martha were called "Mama Nick and Papa John" by their descendants. At the time of this writing, Martha still lived at the old homestead.

Mama Nick and Papa John had nine children:

Myrtle Lucille was born on May 04, 1908 in Jones County Mississippi

Millard Leo was born on June 07, 1910 in Jones County Mississippi

Luther Lamar was born on February 03, 1913 in Jones County Mississippi

John Paul was born on August 04, 1915 in Wayne County Mississippi

Selma Irene was born on March 19, 1926

Dwight Owen "Boe" was born on August 12, 1929 in Perry County Mississippi

Mary Jo was born on March 30, 1938 in Perry County Mississippi

During the depression he took his family to the Delta region of Mississippi but they did not like it and returned to Southeast Mississippi.

The 1930 US Census has them in Leflore County on a Cotton farm. Daughter Myrtle was a school teacher.

Marthas brother Bura Filmore Brown and family moved to Leflore temporarily and were living next door to them.

Not sure but Owen may have been born in Leflore rather than Perry.
