Obituary
Died. Samuel Abbott, the father of Mrs. Lower and Mr. James Abbott, who live about two and a half miles from Mt. Pleasant, died at the residence of one of bis sons, Eli Abbott, living near Salt River, on the 26th of May, 1880, after a short illness. He was taken with a severe chill on Sunday; he suffered much, and failed fast, until Wednesday noon, when his sufferings were ended by death. Mr. Abbott and wife had just come from Indiana where they resided, to visit their children residing here and near St. Louis. They were on their way to Mt. Pleasant when Mr. Abbott was so suddenly taken from his loved and loving children and wife.

Mr. Abbott would have been 70 years old next August. He was a member of the Christian Church, in whose faith he in trusted for many years. He died in peace. Mr. James Abbott aid Mrs. M. Lower went with their mother to carry the remains of their loved one to be interred near others of the family in Indiana. The bereaved friends have the sympathy of many friends and neighbors.

The sad rites are over, they've laid him to rest,. Near the dear loved ones that before will have passed, From this world of alternate winter, and' gloom,. To a land where the Savior disperses all gloom;' He left you to mourn that a father has gone— A husband and friend who has loved you so long. Yet in thy mourning, dear- friends be-not cast down, The Savior has promised unto faithful a crown; His life-battle is fought, the victory Won Then grieve not have won to his reward has-gone; And while memory bids he bitter tear to start. Remember that all to meet again must part. And oh! may the life that we live here below, Each day through His mercies prepare us to go, In peace to that rest—Where our loved ones have gone— And wait in bright glory, to welcome us home— To welcome us home, to the lamb of sweet rest. Where Christ in his kingdom does welcome each guest. Your Friend, J. E. B Isabella County Enterprise, 9 June 1880-Page 1
