Roberta Gaines Miller, 83, of Pleasant Valley, died Dec. 14, 1990. Mrs. Miller was stricken at her home and pronounced dead on arrival at Rockingham Memorial Hospital.

Mrs. Miller was born Sept. 11, 1907, in the Greenmount community, where she lived her early life.

She attended Bridgewater High School and after her marriage in 1926, moved to the Pleasant Valley community where she lived the rest of her life.

Mrs. Miller was a member of St. James United Methodist Church. She was a charter member of the United Methodist Women, a church historian, a lifelong Sunday school teacher, a past secretary for the administrative board of the church and a former worship committee member.

On Nov. 26, 1926, she married Raymond Garber Miller, who died Dec. 26, 1989.

Surviving are two daughters, Reita Jane Miller Trobaugh of Route 2, Radford, and Rosa Lee Miller Early of Route 2, Mount Crawford; three sons, Raymond G. Miller Jr. of Dayton; and J. Richard Miller and Robert C. Miller, both of Harrisonburg; a brother, Carl Charlton of Harrisonburg; 16 grandchildren; and 22 great-grandchildren.

The Rev. Robert Justis will conduct the funeral at 2 p.m. Monday at St. James United Methodist Church. Burial will be in East Lawn Memorial Gardens.

The family will receive friends 7:30-8:30 p.m. Sunday at the Lindsey Harrisonburg Funeral Home.
