Little is known of Sam Beauford's parents apart from their names: Sam Beauford and Louvenia Goodlow (or Goodloe). She died in 1924 in Lawrence Co. AL.

Samuel Allen Beauford's first clear appearance in the records is on the 1910 census for Lincoln County, where he is single and living in Iowa Township. in 1915 he married Mary Alice Obedience, a daughter of the Civil War soldier Dillon Obedience, who is buried in Sweet Home Cemetery. Mary Alice had two daughters from a previous marriage, Bessie and Gracie Skelton. She and Sam are known to have had two children of their own, VeElla Helen, born 1918, who married first Sherman Harvey and then a man known only by his last name, King. VeElla (d. 1997) is buried in Spencer Cemetery, Oklahoma County. The second daughter was Ethelda, who married August Lanzetta Burge in 1944.

In the 1930s Sam and Mary Alice along with their daughters lived on what used to be called the Lake Road that starts about two miles north of Chandler and runs due west. They were remembered by their neighbors as honest, hard-working people who owned their own farm. They probably attended the Baptist Church at Sweet Home.

Later in his life Sam Beauford married a woman named Amanda about whom nothing is known except her dates. She lies beside him.

Gravesite Details

This is a relatively new stone, replacing an older stone on which the family name was spelled phonetically as "Burford." That's the way the name appears at okcemeteries.net.
