Merle E. Wiser -- District Attorney Merle E. "Bud" Wiser is a third generation descendant of Clarion countians (sic). His father is a native of Sligo and his grandfather was born in Monroe Township. Mr. Wiser, who now resides at a Sligo RD address, was born in Sligo December 24, 1919, the son of William H. and Martha Hackbarth Wiser. Most of his life has been in the Sligo and Clarion communities with the exception of his service in World War II. He was gradated from Sligo High School and Clarion State College. His college education was interrupted when he was called to the service in 1941. He served in the Asian-Pacific area and the European Theater, was awarded the Purple Heart and was honorably discharge in 1946 with the rank of Captain. In 1948 he was graduated from Dickinson Law School and attended graduate school at the University of Pittsburgh. Admitted to the Bar in 1949, he set up his practice in Sligo. He was elected District Attorney in 1951 and re-elected to that same office in 1955, 1959, and 1963. He served during 1962 and 1963 as chairman of the Clarion County Republican Committee. He is active in civic and community affairs and is a member of Post 7132 of the Veterans of Foreign Wars in Rimersburg. He was married to Norma Sanesi of Sligo in 1961 and they have one son Mark Erik, born July 31, 1962. Merle E. '' Bud'' Wiser, 80, of Applewood Valley, Monroe Township, Clarion County, an attorney and former Clarion County judge, died at 7:30 p.m. Monday, Oct. 16, 2000, in Brookville Hospital. Born Dec. 24, 1919, in Sligo, he was a son of William and Martha Hackberth Wiser. Mr. Wiser attended Clarion State College before serving in World War II as a captain with the U.S. Army infantry. He served from October 1941 to February 1946, fought in the Aleutian Islands and was wounded in the Battle of Normandy. He was the recipient of the Purple Heart. Following the war, he attended Dickinson Law School in Carlisle for two and one-half years. While waiting for the bar exam, he at tended the University of Pittsburgh for six months. Mr. Wiser was a local attorney for 10 years with an office in Sligo. He served as Clarion County district attorney for 20 years from 1960 to 1980. He became Clarion County judge in 1980, serving six and one-half years until his retirement. He was a member of Immaculate Conception Church in Clarion and American Legion Post No. 66 in Clarion. Mr. Wiser was married June 24, 1961, to Norma Sanesi, who survives. Also surviving are a son and his wife, Mark and Gina Wiser of Clarion; and three grandchildren, Sarah and Taylor Bean and Lauren Wiser, all of Clarion. He also is survived by three brothers, Richard Wiser and Terry Wiser, both of Sligo, and Ken Wiser of Rimersburg; and one sister, Mrs. Richard (Kay) Heeter of Callensburg. In addition to his parents, Mr. Wiser was preceded in death by three brothers, Bob Wiser, Kurt Wiser and Jack Wiser. Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. today and from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday in the Robert V. Burns Funeral Home, Clarion. A Christian wake service will be held at 8:45 p.m. Thursday in the funeral home. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:30 a.m. Friday in the Immaculate Conception Church, Clarion, with the Rev. Frank Przepierski, pastor, as the presider. Interment will be in the Immaculate Conception Cemetery mausoleum.
