HONORED KALAMA RESIDENT PASSES

George W. Jenkins, father of E. FP. Jenkins of this city, passed away at his
home in the Kalama yesterday following a short
illness. Mr. Jenkins had rallied last week and apparently was getting better
and it was with keen sorrow his many friends learned of his death. Mr. Jenkins
celebrated his 90th birthday at a family reunion in Kalama November 13, last.
He had resided in Cowlitz county for nearly forty years and was highly respected
by all who knew him.

Mr. Jenkins was born in New York state November 13, 1827. Following an honored
service in the Civil War he came to the middle west, and in 1875 journeyed to
Oregon. Four years later the family removed to Cowlitz county, settling on Mt.
Pleasant where they continued to reside until about fifteen years ago when they
moved to Kalama. Mr. Jenkins was a member of Kalama Post of the G. A. R.

His aged wife with whom he would have completed the 58th year of happy wedded
life if he had lived until the 29th of April, his son E. P. Jenkins of this
place, a daughter, Mrs. C. C. Ruckles of Kalama, and six grandchildren survive
to mourn his passing. Funeral services were conducted this afternoon at Kalama
by Rev. S. A. George of Tacoma, formerly pastor of the Kelso Presbyterian
Church. The body was brought to Kelso, where interment was made in the I O O F
cemetery. Members of Hamilton Post G. A. R. accompanied the remains to the
grave.
