MRS. A. S. JENKINS, PASSES

Mrs. Adelia S. Jenkins, widow of George Jenkins, and one of the early pioneers
of the Carrolls district, passed away at the home of her daughter, Mrs. C. C.
Ruckles, at Kalama Thursday morning, aged 83 years, 7 months and 21 days. She
had been in the best of health recently, death coming peacefully as she slept.

Mrs. Jenkins was born at Haroswell, Maine, November 16, 1837. About forty years
ago the family moved to Carrolls where they lived for more than a score of
years. From Carrolls they removed to Portland and a few years later came to
Kalama, where Mrs. Jenkins has resided ever since. Mr. Jenkins passed away
about a year ago.

She leaves two children, E. O. Jenkins of this city and Mrs. C. C. Ruckles of
Kalama; seven grandchildren and one great grandchild. She was a lifelong
Christian and took an active interest in public affairs. During the war she was
Cowlitz County's most industrious knitter, making hundreds of knitted garments
for the Service boys.

Funeral services were conducted at the Ruckles residence in Kalama this morning
at 10:30 by Rev. Hughes, after which the body was brought to Kelso for interment
in the family plot in the I O O F cemetery.
