ELBURN KEITH, age 83, of Wayne County, Kentucky passed away Tuesday, August 25, 1998 at the University of Kentucky Hospital in Lexington, Kentucky.

He was born in the Lower Turkey Creek Community of Wayne County on September 9, 1914, the son of Ellis and Nettie Jane Kidd Keith. Both parents preceded him in death.

On May 17, 1937 he married Amelia Morrow Rose Keith, who preceded him in death on February 25, 1981. He later married Evelean Smith Keith on April 29, 1982, who survives.

He is also survived by three children Winfred Keith, Samuel Keith, and Clarence Rose Jr., all of Monticello, Kentucky; 6 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; 3 sisters Emma Barnett of Monticello, Kentucky, Della Taylor and Roxie Young, both of Indianapolis, Indiana; 2 brothers Ozie Keith of Indianapolis, Indiana, and Noble Keith of North Vernon, Indiana; and many nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Preceding him in death are 3 sisters Evie Decker, Alta Jones, and Novella Keith; 3 brothers Obie, Lester, and Leslie Keith; and 2 nieces they raised.

At the age of 16, he went to work in the coal mines for the Stearns Coal and Lumber. In 1938, he opened his first store in the Lower Turkey Creek Community, later opening stores on Brammer Ridge and the Clay Hill Communities before moving to Monticello in 1951. He then opened Keith's Market, where he worked until 1991, when he retired from the grocery business.

He accepted Christ as his Savior and became a member of the Baptist Church in CO-OP, Kentucky, later moving his membership to the Lower Turkey Creek Baptist Church and was a faithful member of the Green Hill Baptist Church.

Funeral services were held Friday, August 28, 1998 at 1 P.M. in the funeral home with Brother Hurstle Clark and Brother Hoyt Abbott officiating.

Burial was in the Elk Spring Cemetery.
