LEBANON ENTERPRISE OBITUARY - 09/30/1955
Arthur H. Alford, 72, St. Rose Road, died last Friday at Kentucky State Hospital, Danville, where he had been under treatment since suffering a cerebral hemorrhage 10 days before. A second stroke early Friday caused his death. He had been ill three weeks. Mr. Alford was born and reared in Marion County, a son of G. C. and Mollie Cooper Alford, long deceased. His wife, Mrs. Martha Mattingly Alford, died March 1, 1951. A daughter, May Belle, died in infancy. One brother, George Alford, Lebanon, survives. Two other brothers, Charles and Clarence are deceased. Nine nieces and nephews survive. They are Miss Mary Lillie Alford, Dayton, Ohio; Mrs. Eugene Long, Cincinnati; Willie Alford, Mrs. Bessie Edwards and Mrs. Frances Coulter, this county; Mrs. Irene Lumbardi, Waterbury, Conn.; Mrs. Stella Haney, Brandenburg; Mrs. Anna Bell Beach, Louisville, and Earl Alford, Indianapolis. The body was taken to Drye Funeral Home. Funeral services were conducted by Msgr. Joseph D. Gettelfinger at 9 a.m. Monday at St. Augustine's Church. Burial was in St. Augustine's Cemetery. The pallbearers were Earl, Willie and Charles Alford, Louis Beach, Frank Haney and Robert Edwards.
