Mr. Walter Lynn, Sr., age 84, of South Victory Drive, Lyons, died at Meadows Memorial Hospital in Vidalia Tuesday morning, August 18, 1987, after a long illness. Born in Tattnall County, Mr. Lynn was a farmer and landowner in this area most of his life. He was a member of Providence Baptist Church, served as a deacon, and church treasurer for many years. He was a former Toombs County Commissioner, was one of the first to serve on the Toombs County Hospital Board, was a former member of the school board and was a Justice of the Peace.

Mr. Lynn is survived by his wife, Mrs. Marie Boyette Lynn of Lyons; two sons, Gordon Lynn of Lyons and William H. Lynn of Savannah; two daughters, Mrs. Sara L. Sapp of Lyons and Mrs. Rose Marie McAlum of Savannah; a sister, Mrs. Tressie Sikes of Collins; 10 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were conducted Thursday, August 20, 1987 at 3:00 PM from the Providence Baptist Church, with Rev. James Wilcox and Rev. James Bullard officiating. Interment was in Providence Church Cemetery. Active pallbearers: James Michael Lynn, William Ronald Lynn, Dr. Carl Walter Lynn, William Lee Sapp, Stephen Dudley McAlum, Dr. Emory Powers Smith, W.C. Braswell, and Ronald Widener. Honorary pallbearers were: Clark Jessup, Cecil Hart, Ernest Jones, Jake Sanders, Willard Sanders, Herman Williamson, Jack Hall, Pat Patterson, Pierce Anderson, Jimmy Alexander, Harold Norton, James Sanders, O.C. Howell and Dr. Paul Davis. Jones-Stewart Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
