Opal Briggs Young, 83, of Lubbock passed away Wednesday, March 15, 2006 at Covenant Medical Center. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, March 18 at 1 p.m. at Calvary Baptist Church with Dr. Chris Sutton officiating. Graveside services will follow at 3 p.m. at Plainview Memorial Park. Arrangements are under the care of Sanders Funeral Home.
Mrs. Young was born September 3, 1922. She was the daughter of W.H. and Sarah Ann (Hinds) Briggs. She married S.J. Young on July 6, 1941 in Lubbock, Texas.
Opal is survived by her husband, S.J. of Lubbock; two daughters, Ann Nelson and husband Mike, and Sandra Waldrep and husband Tom all of Lubbock; a grandson, Jay Nelson of Ft. Worth; and two granddaughters, Amy Nelson of Lubbock and Leigh Dalton of Dallas. She is predeceased by her parents, eight brothers, and one sister.
Mrs. Young was a devoted loving wife, homemaker, mother, and grandmother.
She taught Sunday school and Training Union classes for many years at Happy Union Baptist Church and the First Baptist Church of Plainview. She was a past member and president of the Plainview Junior League.
