S.M.J. Benson married Inda Wood on 2 January 1876 at Caldwell, Burleson County, Texas. She preceded him in death. The couple was blessed with 15 children.
Services for S.M.J. Benson, 74, were held at the Baptist Church officiated by the pastor, Rev. Miles B. Hays.
Mr. Benson was one of the real pioneers of this section of the country, having settled on the old Benson ranch, eight miles east of Olney in 1884. He was engaged in the cattle business and was a successful stockman for many years. In connection with this business, he established a general store in the town of Farmer many years ago and ran that for seven years. In 1906, he moved with his family to Olney.
Survived by eight boys and three girls: Mrs. O.E. Cook, Mrs. Maude Trammel, Mrs. Bernice Rice, George M. Benson, Edwin Benson, Horace Benson, Joe Benson, Will Benson, Charlie Benson, Seaborn Benson, Jr, and Clyde Benson.
Uncle Seaborn had an outstanding character and unfailing benevolence. He had a passionate devotion to his children and some way or another, that was his only fault. He was loved by all who knew him and will be sadly missed.
