He married Flora May Johnson Ritzler, widow of John M. Ritzler, on April 9, 1908 at Green Camp. Flora May died Dec 18, 1933 at Green Camp and is buried with her first husband John Ritzler at Green Camp Cemetery (Row 17 Old Section). John and Flora had 3 known daughters; Ella F Ritzler (Chard) Jerew (they are buried at Green Camp Cemetery Row 15 Old Section) and Glenna C Ritzler (Claude O) Eckley (buried at Green Camp Cemetery Row 17 Old Section), and Lulu Ritzler who died as an infant.

James Calvin Thomas, 81, of Green Camp died at 11:25 p.m. Friday in the Marion County Home. He had been ill six months.
Born June 30, 1869, in Prospect Township, he was a son of William and Hannah Pyatt Thomas. April 9, 1908, in Green Camp, he married Mrs. Flora M. Ritzler who died Dec. 18, 1933. He was employed as a male nurse for years. With exception of three years in Kansas, he lived most of his life in Marion County. At Green Camp, he was a member of the Methodist Church and of the Brotherhood, and was an honorary member of the I.O.O.F. Lodge.
Surviving are a step daughter, Mrs. Chard Jerew of 225 Owens Street, Marion, and a step grandson, Jack Eckley of Green Camp. He was youngest and last of a family of 11.
Funeral services will be conducted Monday at 3 p.m. in the Green Camp Church. Rev. Cecil F. Fogle of Greenfield, a former pastor of Green Camp, will officiate. Burial will be in Green Camp Cemetery. Friends may call at the Merle H. Hughes Mortuary on Mt. Vernon Avenue after 7:30 tonight, until 2 p.m. Monday then at the church.
