CARBON-Clara Jane Thomas Martin, 93, Carbon, died at 5:45 a.m. Wednesday in Clay County Hospital, Brazil. She was formerly employed at Alphonso Rio Cigar Co. and Libby, McNeil & Libby Canning Co., Brazil. She was born Feb. 12, 1891, near Lena to William and Mary Pilant Thomas. Her husband, Park Martin, died in 1974. Survivors include one daughter, Alma Jeffries, Carbon; two sons, David and Thomas, both of Brazil; three sisters, Ruth Myers and Thora Boswell, both of Brazil, and Ethel Howard, Terre Haute; 17 grandchildren, 38 great-grandchildren, eight great-great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. She was a member of Carbon Baptist Church. Services are scheduled for 10 a.m. Friday in Lawson-Slack Funeral Home, Brazil, with the Rev. Kenneth Corbett officiating. Burial is in Calcutta Cemetery north of Harmony. visitation is from 4 to 8 p.m. today and prior to services Friday.
