Elmer F. Jacob, age 89, died on April 25, 1998 at the Good Samaritan Center in Estherville. His services were April 28, 1998 at the United Methodist Church in Estherville, with the Rev. Larry Willey officiating. Burial was at Oak Hill Cemetery in Estherville.

Elmer was born to August and Meda (Franklin) Jacob, on March 7, 1909 on a farm near Milford. He received his education in the Milford schools, graduating as valedictotian of Milford High School in 1926.

On Sept. 22, 1935, Elmer was united in marriage to Doris Ball at Spirit Lake. The couple moved to Estherville on Jan. 1, 1937. Elmer was employed by Rock Island Railroad, with continous service in various office positions, until his retirement on Jan. 1, 1974. Elmer served as the 33rd Mayor, he presided over a complete renovation of the City's facilities, including a new wastewater treatment plant, expanded water plant and system, expanded airport runway, elderly housing and senior center, improved electrical distribution system and storm sewer system.

Elmer was a member of the United Methodist Church, the Noon Kiwanis Club and served on the board of A.A.R.P. in Estherville. Aviation and bicycle riding were hobbies that Elmer enjoyed.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Doris Jacob of Estherville; two grandsons, Tim Jacob of Stuart, Fla. and Fred Jacob of Metuchen, N.J.; grandchildren, Molly, Paul, Nathan and Mitchell and one great-granddaughter Jessica.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, George Jacob.
