Agnes Gavin was the daughter of Matthew Gavin and Marion Park. The family moved from Lanark County, Ontario to Bloomfield, Prince Edward Island in the 1860s, and then in the 1880s to North Dakota.

Agnes and her husband, Thomas Hunter were married in Prince Edward Island and their first children were born there. Their other children were born in North Dakota. They moved to California sometime between 1910 when they appear in the census in St. Thomas, Pembina, ND and 1920 when they are in Los Angeles where Thomas worked in a flour mill.
