John Nelson, son of Nels Christian and Matilda Nelson, was born November 2, 1864, and passed away on February 10, 1947, at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Pearl Cline in Chowchilla, Calif., at the age of 82 years, 3 months, 8 days. He was born in Denmark and came to America in the year of 1871 at the age of 7. He lived in Illinois until he moved to Cordova, Nebraska in the year 1887. In April, 1887, he was married to Adebelle Jerome and to this union five daughters were born, one having preceded him in death. He was a member of the Danish Lutheran church.

He is survived by his widow, Mrs. Elphrettia Nelson of Edgar, Nebr., foru daughters: Mrs. Ed Gillan of Oak, Nebr., Mrs. P.A. Davis and Mrs. J.A. Thompson of Maderia, Calif., and Mrs. Pearl Cline of Chochilla (sic), Calif.; three step-children: Mrs. L. Cozad of Holton, Kansas, Mrs. Delia Davis of Wetmore, Kans., and Homer Hetherington of Superior, Nebr.; one sister, Mrs. Dorothea Baker of Greeley, Colorado, and one brother, Peter Nelson of Hardy, Nebr.; 17 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren, besides a host of relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held at the Methodist church in Edgar, Nebr., at two o'clock Sunday afternoon, February 16, 1947. Interment was in the Edgar cemetery.

Out of town relatives attending the service were: Mrs. Pearl Cline, Chowchilla (sic), Calif.; Peter Nelson, Mr. and Mrs. Chris Nelson, Hardy, Nebr., Mrs. Dorothea Baker, Greeley, Colo., Mrs. Oscar Anderson, Torrington, Wyo., Mrs. Lenora Cozad, Holton, Kansas, Mr. and Mrs. Homer Hetherington, Mr. and Mrs. Harry Paulsen and son of Superior. -- Oak Items
