Son of Davis & Unity Jane (Barksdale) Short. Claiborne enlisted with Charley Clark Rifles 20th June 1861 in 12th Mississippi. He died 25 April 1862 in Yorktown, VA of disease.

Claiborne never married.
Note: Original memorial showed his death as March 14, 1852, which was typed from the Bible of Davis Short. This was erroneously transcribed from the Bible. Service record shows he died 25 Apr 1862 in Yorktown, VA. Burial unknown.
