Matilda's parents were Lewis and Catherine (Head) Peavler. She married John Stufflebean June 9, 1853 in Linn County, Missouri. They had five children: Mary Dorcia, Lewis Michael, Thomas James, Catherine Sarah Matilda and John Henry. Her husband John Stufflebean was born June 30, 1821 in Estill Co., Kentucky, and died during the Civil War on June 10,1864 in the Nashville, Tennessee, hospital. His grave marker has his name as John Stufflebeam.

Matilda married John B. Hall in 1869 and they divorced in 1872. She died in 1900 and there is not a marker for her grave in the North Salem Cemetery.
