John and Bernadine (Peitz) Leise Family


John Leise was born in Westphalia, Germany on August 24, 1878 to Frank and Maria (Emohl) Leise. At age 7, he came to America with his mother, brothers and sister.


John married Bernadine Peitz, daughter of Fred and Anna (Noecker) Peitz, on June 14, 1910 at St. James. They were the parents of 9 children: Frank (married Viola Wuebben), Amelia (married Gerhard Lammers), Walter, Theresa (married Francis Gubbels), Tony (married Julia Uhing), John, Norbert, Albert (married Loretta Wuebben), and Leonard (married Joanne Promes). A daughter, Ida, died in infancy.


John and Bernadine farmed all their life in the St. James area. Three of their sons, Frank, Albert and Leonard served their country. John Leise was one of the charter members of the SS. Philip and James Parish.


John died October 7, 1944 and Bernadine died on November 15, 1951. They are buried at St. James Cemetery.
