JOSEPH AND ANNA ELIZABETH (REIFENRATH) IMOEHL

Joseph Imoehl was born in 1874 in Festina, Iowa, the son of Joseph Imoehl Sr. and Helena Doerr. He came to Cedar County at an early age. He married Anna Reifenrath on November 16, 1897, in a little chapel in a school house in Brookey Bottom by Father Henry Schoof, pioneer priest of the St. Helena parish from 1879 to 1902. Their witnesses were John Reifenrath and Emilee Imoehl. Anna was born in 1875, the daughter of Gerlach and Mary (Schmidt) Reifenrath, of Brookey Bottom. Joe farmed but was more interested in working with a forge and anvil. He also enjoyed smoking a pipe and he loved to eat lots of onions.

Joseph and Anna had 3 children. Rose married Fritz Pinkelman. Mary married Lawrence Pinkelman. George died in infancy. Anna is remembered as always having candy and gum for the grandchildren. Joseph Imoehl died in 1948 and his wife, Anna, died in 1951. They are both buried in the SS. Philip and James Cemetery.

They celebrated their Golden Anniversary in 1947.
