OBITUARY ---------------
COLE STAFFORD

Redwood City Democrat

January 31, 1907

John Colin Stafford, another of the prominent young men of this city, departed this life on Thursday of last week after a brief illness.

Mr. Stafford had been ill for about three weeks with that dread complaint typhoid but his friends had thought that his rugged physique would pull him through. A change for the worse was noted last week and despite everything that medical skill could do and with tender came, he passed away as the twilight shades began to gather on Thursday. At his bedside when the end came were his young wife and his mother and brothers and sisters.

Cole Stafford was born in Redwood City 29 years ago and went through the public school supplementing this education with a business course at Heald’s Business College. He early joined his brothers in the conduct of the Pioneer Stable which his father, the late John Stafford, for 10 years Supervisor of the district, had left. About three years ago the stable was sold and he entered into business with his brother Still Sears in which he was engaged at the time of his death.

Cole was the oldest son of Mrs. and the late John Stafford and leaves to mourn his mother and two sisters, Mrs. Dr. J.L. Ross and Mrs. F. Rousell, and two brothers Still Sears and Thomas Stafford. About two years ago he married Miss Clair Murray and one daughter was the result of this union and the young woman is bereft at her great loss.

Mrs. J. Stafford who was traveling through the eastern states was recalled by telegraph and arrived at her home only a few hours before the death of her son.

The deceased was a member of the Native Sons of the Golden West and of the fraternal Order of Eagles. The funeral services were conducted by the former organization and the interment took place at Union Cemetery.
