Ida was baptized as Ida Mathilde Fredericka Guse. At some point later, her family's last name was changed to "Gusee".

The following obituary was published April 16, 1942 in the "Banner" of Bruning, Nebraska. My sincere thanks to Linda Hume for finding it!

Mrs. Ida Clara Bartels

Mrs. Ida Clara Bartels, nee Guse, was born October 4, 1968, as Oshkosh, Wisconsin, and was baptized in her infancy. Death deprived her of her mother when she was only two years of age. So a few years later she came to Friend, Nebraska, to live with her grandparents. She attended the parochial school of the Lutheran church at Tobias, Nebr., and was confirmed there in the Evangelical Lutheran church.
In 1884 [sic-1885], she entered into holy wedlock with Ernest [sic-Ernst] Bartels. The marriage was solemnized at Tobias. Their union was blessed with a daughter [Sophia], who died 36 years ago, and a son [August]. Her husband died in 1887, and on November 8, 1888, she entered into wedlock with Fred Bartels, a cousin of her first husband. This union was blessed with nine children of which four died in infancy, and one son, Rudolph, about 12 years ago. In 1938, she and her husband planned to observe their 50th wedding anniversary with an appropriate celebration. But it pleased the Lord God to take her husband from this earth less than two weeks before the planned celebration. The widow moved in [sic-into] the town of Bruning.
Last Friday, after attending the Good Friday morning service and partaking of the Lord's Supper, she suffered a stroke of paralysis, and departed from this earth peacefully and in the Faith last Tuesday evening, April 7, 1942, at the age of 73 years, 6 months and 3 days.
The immediate mourners are her children, August of Rockford, Ill., Mrs. Sam Aden of Chappell, Nebr., Fred H. and Loren J. of David City, Nebr., and Theodore of Macon, Georgia; two step-sisters, one step-brother, 11 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren.
The deceased was loved by her children and her grandchildren and respected by her friends and neighbors for her kindly unassuming Christian character. She was happy to spend her reclining years near her church and to be able to attend all services regularly. Her Christian faith and hope are expressed in the hymn, "Some Day":
"Some day, I know, I shall appear before Him
Whom here I hold in love's and faith's embrace,
Shall humbly kneel and gratefully adore Him
And with mine eyes behold Him face to face.:
Funeral services were held Friday, April 10, at 2:00 p.m. at the Bruning Mortuary and then at the Trinity Lutheran church. Interment was in the Trinity Lutheran cemetery.
