David Witherspoon b. Jan. 30, 1834 d. June 23, 1923, son of John and Margaret (Witherspoon) Witherspoon. Born at Enon Valley, Lawrence County, Pa. Died at Mokane, Missouri where he was living with his youngest son, George. Buried at Memphis, Missouri. He was 89 at his death.
David enlisted as a Musician (Bugler) on the 5th day of August 1861 at Harrisburg, Pa. in Co. B. 1st Reg. of Pennsylvania Artillery. Discharged at Pittsburg, Pa. on June 8, 1864. He was described as being 5' 9!" tall, grey eyes, dark hair. Occupation: carpenter.
He married (1) Margaret Gailey on Mar. 14 or 15, 1865. She died Mar. 25, 1865 at Moravia, Pa. on her wedding trip. She was killed when her horse was scared by a train. David married (2) Mary Durnan who was born March 5, 1845 in County Monahan, Ireland. She died August 10, 1911 at age 66 in Memphis, Missouri. They were married at Tideoute, Warren County, Pennsylvania on April 21, 1867.

1. Alice Agnes Witherspoon b. Dec. 25, 1867 d. July 21, 1870.
2. James Frederick Witherspoon b. Oct. 2, 1869 Scotland County, Missouri d. June 17, 1902 Missoula, Montana. Killed in a train accident. Buried at Memphis, Missouri.
3. John William Witherspoon b. Nov. 2, 1871 Scotland County, Missouri d. Jan. 18, 1928 New York City of pneumonia. He worked on the Panama Canal when it was built. Buried at Memphis, Missouri.
4. George Lewis Witherspoon b. Jan. 29, 1876 Scotland County, Missouri. m. Bertha Zumstang.
