James K. Roberts, 84, former road supervisor in Center Township, died Sunday, July 19, 1942, at 5 p.m. at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Jane Gump, of 87 North Washington street. Death came as a result of complications developing from a broken hip, which Mr. Roberts suffered some time ago. He had been ill for the past three months.
He was born in Center Township, July 17, 1858, a son of Samuel and Elizabeth (Kinnan) Roberts, and married Martha Cooper who preceded him in death 10 years ago. He spent most of his life in Center Township and served three terms as road supervisor on the township board.
Surviving him are the following children: Mrs. Myrtle Knisley, of Jefferson; Mrs. Retta Gump and Mrs. Jane Gump, both of Waynesburg; Asa Roberts, of Pne Bank, R. D. 2; Clyde Roberts, of Waynesburg; a sister, Mrs. Mary Siler, of Carmichaels; 17 grandchildren and 34 great-grandchildren. One daughter is deceased.
Mr. Roberts was a member of the Rogersville Methodist Church.
Friends are being received at the home of Mrs. Jane Gump.

Short funeral services for James K. Roberts, late of Waynesburg, will be held at 1:30 p.m., Tuesday, July 21, from the Mrs. Jane Gump residence, 87 North Washington street, with further services at the Rogersville Methodist Church in charge of Rev. Charles G. Aldrich, of Mather. Interment will be made in Rosemont Cemetery. Friends will be received at the Gump home. Ralph H. Scott, of Rogersville, is the funeral director in charge of arrangements.
