Bertha Lucille Ross was born November 30, 1908 at Clarion, Iowa to John and Laura(Huss)Ross. She attended the Clarion Schools. She married Paul Monroe Hinton on March 26, 1930 in Clarion, Iowa. After marriage, the couple lived in Clarion and farmed there until they moved to Des Moines and ran a grocery store on Grand Avenue. In 1938, they moved to a farm near Udell, Iowa. Bertha worked along the side of her husband on the farm, while raising eight children. But she managed to find time to sew and embroidery.
Bertha is survived by daughters Pauline(Jim)McKenna of Grinnell, IA, Marjorie(Richard)Hopkins of Unionville, IA, Barbara(Arlo)Robb of Rolla, Mo, Helen(Frank)Stajcar of Unionville, IA, Dorothy(Jim)Gillaspie of Prairie City, IA, Bonnie(John)Kauzlarich of Centerville, Darlene Cangas of Des Moines, Iowa; 31 grandchildren; 47 great grandchildren; 6 great great grandchildren; nieces Ruth Labs and Shirley Byrd and a nephew Morris Peterson.
Bertha was preceded in death by her husband Paul in 1956; children Lillian Lucille and Mary Lou; her parents; 2 sisters Gladys(Cecil)Pate and Edna(George)Peterson; 4 brothers Berton(Loretta)Ross, Ervin and Clyde Ross and Dell(Louise)Ross.
Graveside Services will be held at 11am Tuesday morning, September 4, 2007 at Oakland Cemetery with Pastor Kay Singley officiatiing. The family will be at the funeral home from 9:30am thru 10:30am Tuesday morning at the Thomas Lange Funeral Home. The funeral home will be open for visitors 5pm thru 8pm Monday evening. A memorial has been estabalished to the Oncology Dept, Mercy Medical Center in Centerville and may be left at the funeral home.
