Son of Cullen Wesley Carter and Millie Greer Carter, sister to Emily Jane Carter Cain Hudson, uncle to Louis Hudson and Millie Hudson James. Husband to Sally Jane Belt.

He enrolled at Noblesville, Ind. Dec. 6, 1863, Pvt. Co. L. 8th IN Cav.; Discharged Indianapolis, Ind July 20, 1865; He had served in Tennessee. Cause of his jury was he had been "crippled by mule" in 1864. After discharge he resided at Villa Ridge, Ill.

In about 1904 he married a widow whose husband had also been in the hospital, Mrs. Samuel Belt (Sallie/Sarah Jane Gilliam Belt). She is buried somewhere near the National Cemetery in Lansing, Ks as 'Sarah J. Belt" wife of Samuel Belt.
