She is listed on the 1860 census under her mother's new married name Sailes. In 1870 she is married and living in Evansville, Indiana and on that census she is called "Emma." On the 1880 census of Mound City, Pulaski Co., IL she was listed as having bilious fever - a term for many illnesses including malaria.
There is a receipt for lots in the Cairo City Cemetery given to her brother T.B. Carter and passed through the family and the most likely assumption is that he arranged for the burial plot(s) for his sister and her husband. This may indicate time frame for their death and location of graves. He paid $16 for East 1/2 of Lot #1, Block 17, West Division, Cairo City Cemetery. 6 September 1886.
Cullen Wesley CARTER died abt. 1844 probably in Indiana--maybe Wayne Co.
