Obituary: Sophia Morris

Published: Friday, Dec. 8, 2000 10:42 a.m. MST

Loving Godmother, aunt and friend to all, Sophia Morris, passed away peacefully on Thursday, December 07, 2000.

Sophia was born June 23, in Kansas City, MO, to John and Efthemia Monoporis (Morris), and came to Salt Lake as a young girl.

A devoutly religious woman, Sophia was a member of Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church. Always proud of her family and Greek-American heritage, Sophia was known by all to be generous, hard working and fun loving. She retired as a career employee of the County Assessor's Office in Salt Lake City where she won several citations for being an outstanding, dedicated employee. As an active member of the Olympus Business Women's Association, Sophia took pride in her work in government, and cherished her friends and co-workers throughout the city. All who knew her held her in a special place in their heart. She will be greatly missed.

Special thanks to the many friends, nurses, and staff at the senior apartments unit and the transitional care service of the St. Joseph's Villa. A special thank you to Amber, Community Nursing Service, for her tender and dedicated care, and to Heidi, Meals-On-Wheels, for her support and friendship.

Preceded in death by her parents, her beloved brothers Gus and George, life-time friends Louis and Frances Pezely, and long-time friends Kay and Raymond Peck. Sophia is survived by her dear Godson, Jon Pezely and family, faithful friends Matina Young and Norma Morris, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, December 9, at 11:30 a.m. in the Holy Trinity Cathedral, 279 South 300 West. Friends may also call Friday evening from 6-8 p.m. at Neil O'Donnell and Sons Mortuary, 372 East 100 South, with the Trisagion prayer service at 7:30 p.m. Burial, Mt. Olivet Cemetery, 1342 East 500 South.
