Pitched beneath the wheels of a Santa Fe freight train when it broke in two near the corner of Base Line and I streets yesterday, Santa Fe brakeman Frank Leonard Jones, of 1480 Rialto avenue, met instant death. On man witnessed the tragedy. This was Roy Cox, an employee of the packing house in that section, who was watching the train as it was pulling into the city.
Cox, with Engineer Frank McNeil and Conductor C A Ramsey, were the witnesses at the inquest held late yesterday afternoon at the McDonald company's parlors by Coroner Fuller.

A verdict of accidental death was rendered. Jones, who has been in the employ of the Santa Fe here for the past four years, was riding on the first car when the accident occurred. When the coupling gave way, the automatic brakes set. The abrupt flop threw Jones and he pitched forward just between the tank car and the car on which he was riding. He went under the wheels and when he was picked up a moment later he was breathing his last.

The accident occurred at 9 o' clock — San Bernardino, Cal, Daily News, May 8.

Frank Leonard Jones was born June 16, 1883 in Tulsa, Okla. He came to Chetopa with his parents when he was three years old. His father, Gilbert L Jones, and little brother Harry and his grandfather, T S Leonard, are buried in Chetopa.

He went lo Los Angeles with his grandfather and family fifteen years ago this summer. He was married on 16th of December, 1909.

He leaves his wife and 3 year old son and step daughter, his mother and two sisters, Mr Walter Werden of Glendale, Cal and Mrs Leila Hickman of Los Angeles.

The funeral sermon was preached by O V Wilkinson pastor of the Christian church of Los Angeles. Interment was in Evergreen cemetery. He was a moral young man and well thought of among his fellow worker. This is the second sad death in the family in eight month.
