In the 1930s, she met Elvin Limberger and they got married. A skilled seamstress, she worked many years at Stanley Clothes in addition to her time as a roller for General Cigar. Elvin worked for 24 years at R.G Furniture Company and later retired from Southern Indiana Distributors.
Garnet and Elvin lived most of their lives at 2206 Harding Ave., just down the street from her sister Mary Ann's family. The Limbergers spent most of their time in the basement, tending to four or five cages of parakeets. They never had children, so the birds were precious to them. Elvin called one "Tweety Bird," often taking it out of its cage and kissing it. At night, he'd cover the cages and say, "Time to go to bed Tweety Bird."
Elvin died in 1977, and Garnet continued to live on Harding Avenue for many years until she entered Washington Manor retirement home where she died. She and Elvin are buried at Locust Hill Cemetery in Evansville.
