Mr. Bittle was one of 256 passengers and crew members aboard Arrow Air Flight 1285 on 12 Dec 1985 when it crashed and burned shortly after takeoff from Gander, Newfoundland. The flight originated from Cairo, Egypt and was carrying 236 members of the 101st Airborne Division and 12 other soldiers home after completion of a Multinational Force and Oberservers Peacekeeping Mission. They were headed home to Fort Campbell, Kentucky. There were no survivors.
