Catherine Gillerlain Carson, 76 1/2, of the 200 block of North St., died Wednesday, Nov. 25, 1992, in a local hospital.

A loving, caring, generous mother and wife, she was a member of St. Paul's Catholic Church, had attended St. Joseph Academy and the Portsmouth public schools, was a member of Portsmouth Scottish Rite Ladies and a volunteer at Portsmouth General Hospital. Mrs. Carson retired from F.W. Woolworth Co. at the age of 71.

Surviving are her husband, Fletcher W. Carson Sr.; two daughters, Barbara C. Sprinkle and Sue Carson of Portsmouth; a son, Fletcher W. Carson Jr. of Chesapeake; a brother, Frank H. Gillerlain of Portsmouth; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

The body will be taken home for viewing. A Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated Saturday, Nov. 28, at 11 a.m. in St. Paul's Catholic Church. A Christian wake service will be conducted at 7:30 p.m. Friday at the residence. Friends may join the family at the residence. Burial will be in Portsmouth Catholic Cemetery.
