Ellen Hardin Poole Garrison was the daughter of Emily Cilley Poole and her husband, James Poole. She had only two children during her lifetime, both sons, no daughters. As I wrote my second cousin, Nancy Manolis of Minn. & Florida, in Feb. 2008, Ellen's nickname was Nellie; after Nancy challenged the truth of this nickname, I timely forwarded to her a digitized mss page written by Emily Cilley Poole, Ellen's mother, stating the same (this mss page was not a part of the dismantled old newspaper clippings scrapbook). Also, my Aunt Martha also assured me years ago of the validity of this nickname, as proven to her via the lettering on an old steamer trunk, showing the passenger's name; a look at the line of Emory McKendree Garrison tells us that another Nellie Rae Garrison, teacher and Moore family genealogist, was indeed in that branch of the family (I do not recall the precise lettering on the trunk offhand, i.e. Nellie P. Garrison or Nellie Garrison or NPG). Looking at how she got named "Ellen Hardin", and whom precisely she was named after also takes a bit of thought; peer closely at the Bevis-Cedar Grove Cemetery stones and early paper trail heritage when investigating this topic. I am vaguely recalling that there was both an Ellen at Bevis and an earlier Eleanor Davis Hardin [recheck the Hardin/Poole plot removed from Hardin farm to Bevis Cemetery] - so at least two earlier ones.
