Father of Local Woman Dies
James Walter Critser, 78, of 702 E. Angelica St., Rensselaer, died at 6:10 p.m. Monday in Home Hospital, Lafayette. He had been in failing health six months.
Born in Milroy Twp. on Jan. 11, 1899, he was a son of Eli W. and Elisabeth L. (Groom) Critser. He was married to Helen May Allie on June 9, 1940 in Rensselaer.
A resident of the Rensselaer area a lifetime, he attended Rensselaer public schools and was co-owner of Critser Brothers Trucking 50 years.
He was a member of the Rensselaer Drum & Bugle Corps and Rensselaer Fire Department. He had served as a Rensselaer City Councilman 12 years.
Surviving with the wife are two daughters, Mrs. Maurice (Bette) Knochel of Remington and Mrs. Mary Helen Miller of LaPorte: five grandchildren: two great-granchildren; one sister, Mrs. Martha Hurley of Rensselaer; and two brothers, Vern H. and Joseph M. Critser, both of Rensselaer. He was preceded in death by three brothers and three sisters.
Funeral services were conducted at Jackson Funeral Chapel at 1:30 p.m. Thursday with the Rev. L. Wayne Smith officiating.
Burial followed in Weston cemetery, Rensselaer.
